BARRY SEGAL FOUNDATION RESTORES HOPE TO TWELVE INTERNALLY DISPLACED FAMILIES IN MAAI MAHIU
On Wednesday June 2nd 2010, the Barry Segal foundation and family members led by Barry himself visited Kenya and specifically to the Habitat for Humanity projects with a mission to preside over a handing over ceremony of twelve houses for the Internally Displaced Families in Maai mahiu that they had funded in November 2009. Eleven houses were funded in 2009 and one had been funded in May as a special birthday gift to Barry.
The four hour ceremony was filled with pomp, colour and dance as Joseph and family, Kariuki and family, Muigai and family, Maina and family, Gugu and family, John and family, Abrahim and family, Joel and family, Mercy and family, Jane and family, Wanjiru and family and Esther and family, the twelve house beneficiaries received their keys to their newly constructed three-roomed permanent houses. In addition, the families received bibles to continue spreading the good word of God.
The women and the large gathering sang and danced in great jubilation for the generosity and dedication that the Barry Segal family had extended to them by partnering with Habitat for Humanity Kenya in building them decent and durable houses. The children through their well scripted poems and songs entertained the guests and reminded everyone in attendance that peace is very important for development of any nation.
As for the twelve home owners, the joy of moving into their new houses was portrayed all over their faces. “We all appreciate your generosity and kind gesture to all of us. What you have done to us and our families is only God who can reward you. We thank you for coming all the way and for blessing us with new homes and restoring hope in our lives. May God reward you abundantly as you continue partnering with Habitat for Humanity Kenya to house the remaining families still living in the tents”, said Joseph, one of the twelve.
Touched by the life experiences of these families, and the living conditions of those still living in the tents, the Segal Foundation made a promise to donate funds for ten more families.
At HFHK and on behalf of the IDP families, we sincerely say THANK YOU to the Segal foundation for restoring hope and touching the lives of twelve internally displaced families through the provision of three roomed decent and permanent houses. We also would like to thank you as you prepare to donate towards building for ten more families!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
