Building Dreams and Transforming lives in Bungoma!

The month of July has been one full of blessings for Janerose Ichulang’s family who is member of Aliare Self Help Group in Teso North District Early this month, fourteen members from US Global Village led by Nicole Streeter, visited her home to help the family construct a decent house.

The team was a source of inspiration for the community of Amagoro as they worked hard and tirelessly to clear the bushy site paving way for laying the foundation.

As the sun set, giving way to the close of the first day, it was evident that many hands make work light. The benefits of team work were evident as both were satisfied with the work they had set out to do.

Janerose like many low income families in Kenya, live in mud walled houses or poorly constructed structures due to lack of affordable start up capital to build decent housing. However, through HFHK housing micro finance program, Janerose and many other Kenyans in Habitat Self Help Groups can now smile after the successful completion of their houses.

The joy of owning a house is the dream of every human being. For Janerose and her son Griffins it was a great day to witness the team cast a new foundation slab in their small piece of land.  As building progressed, Griffins was busy identifying his room, for him this was a new beginning.

The team worked closely with the local community for eight days. They laid the foundation and raised the walls of the three roomed house to window level. In a month’s time Alice will be the proud owner of a new and decent house thanks to the generous contribution of friends, partners and volunteers of Habitat for Humanity.

Much to their surprise another star was shining for Ichulang family. The team bought African attires made by Alice from her tailoring business which happens to be her only source of income. Her dream had surely come true, she was glad to have hosted a large team. She will soon have a home and a promising business.  The Ichulang family are grateful to the team members and Habitat for Humanity for building their dream and transforming their lives.

Asanteni sana!!
