A Silver lining at Last for Mabeya family
The Esaiga self help group hosted a team of twelve Global village team from the USA at the humble village of Suneka in Kisii. The team arrived on the chilly evening of 4th July to the jubilant welcome of the local community. Alice Mabeya is a member of Esaiga Self Help group, one of the many groups under the Habitat for Humanity Housing Micro Finance Program that helps low income families construct decent and habitable houses.
Alice, a small scale farmer and a mother of five children has lived in a mud walled house since she got married to Mabeya. She has had to contend with constant repairs and leaking roof until she received her first loan for Ksh 35,000 approximately $467 to set up a new house for her family.
The Global Village Team was determined to help the Mabeya construct a decent house in the shortest time possible. They worked in partnership with the locals and in consultation with the local fundis (a Swahili word for masons) to ensure that the walls were well positioned.
To mark seven days of hard work with the community, Melinda the team leader presented two Bibles to Alice as a sign of God’s amazing love and hope for his people and more specifically the locals of Suneka village.
In every cloud there is a silver lining and for Alice she could now see the lining in form of a new house. Alice Mabeya’s family, the Esaiga group and the community of Suneka are grateful to the US Global Village team and Habitat for Humanity Kenya.
Thank you and May God bless you.
