Dreams Come True..
Every human being has a dream, some people hold on to their dreams, others give up and let go, evidently the residents of Kangutu and Kibumbu village are among those who never let go until the dream comes true. Theirs was a dream of a better life, the dream of a place to call home.
The US Global Volunteer Team arrived in Runyenjess to a hero’s welcome by the host community. The joy, smiles and beaming faces of eager men, women and children was a sign of love and hope. They looked forward to owning a house and having a decent place to call home.
Silas was delighted to be the centre of attention, the locals had gathered at his compound to help with the construction of his house. The team was determined to demonstrate love and transform life. Indeed love is the discovery of ourselves in others and the delight in the recognition. After three days of hard work, all the scheduled work was complete. Silas family had not only recognized love but had experienced it.
It was now time to move to Kangai’s family. The team had to combine strategies in order to finish all the scheduled work. This involved digging and joining pieces of timber, soon the walls were up, ready for painting.
The final day was one of mixed emotions, the team members were delighted to have helped two families put up homes, but they knew it was time to leave. During this short period, they had come to understand the people, to love them, and become part of their world. The local community organized a party in honour of the team, they gave them souvenirs knowing that only distance would keep them apart but memories will remain forever. The night was filled with song and dance, indeed life would never be the same again for Silas and Kangai.
Thank you Melisa and the entire team for changing lives and helping these two families realize their dream. May God richly reward all of you.
